The Chevy Silverado lineup is versatile enough to offer the right model for any need, whether it be a luxury hauler, a basic workhorse, or a capable pickup truck for working on a construction site. Chevrolet completely redesigned its light-duty Silverado 1500 truck last year, but the HD range was destined to wait another year to receive a total overhaul. For 2020, the only models to get big changes are the Silverado 2500 and 3500 that enter their next generation. Their standard-scale sibling and the three medium-duty chassis cabs which broke cover for 2019 are still fresh, but significant powertrain and tech updates found their way to the 1500 lineup to keep it competitive.
For starters, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD adopted dramatic new styling that is a radical departure from what its light-duty counterpart features. Every single one of its body panels and exterior accessories is all-new, save for the roof. Its brand-new oversized grille is polarizing, but love it or hate it, it’s one of the most striking 2020 Chevy Silverado accessories that give this truck a bold, intimidating look. All of the trim levels, which include the Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country, received unique design features and technologies. While the LT got a monstrous grille with Chevrolet lettering, the luxurious High Country sports its sleeker bowtie version with a horizontal bar that cuts into the headlights. Other designs offer a combination of black, metallic, chrome, and body-color elements, depending on a trim level. Among the new 2020 Chevy Silverado accessories, there are side steps positioned ahead of the rear wheels, which ease access to the bed. The Silverado 1500 carries over with its upright style with a squared-off nose. Styling cues differ within eight available trim grades. No matter which model you own, if you’re looking to make your vehicle even more impressive, we have the right 2020 Chevy Silverado parts for it.
Of course, there’s no shortage of optional packages and special edition versions for Chevrolet’s pickup truck. The Silverado 1500 Rally Edition adds sporty visuals that include rally stripes and a bunch of black exterior trim, while rolling on dark 20- or 22-inch wheels. Vehicle manufacturers traditionally offer blacked-out packages these days, and in the case of the half-ton Silverado, it takes the form of the familiar Midnight Edition available on the Trail Boss models (LT and Custom). Unlike the appearance-only Rally pack, aside from an all-black look, the Midnight Edition has a host of goodies that enhance its off-road capability. It sits 2.0 inches higher and benefits from Rancho monotube dampers, an automatic locking diff, and 18-inchers with off-road tires.
Just like the half-ton full-size Silverado truck that gained some space inside the cabin last year, the HD crew cab follows up and adds 3 inches of rear legroom thanks to a longer wheelbase. It also shares similar interior updates and boasts an array of towing technology. The trailering tech list on the Silverado 1500 is already comprehensive and includes trailer-theft alert, multi-camera systems, hitch mounted backup camera, remote brake light, and more. The big addition to this year’s light-duty model is the adaptive cruise control system, which for some reason has been missing from the options list.
Powertrain-wise, the 2020 Silverado 1500 got some crucial changes. There are multiple engine and transmission combinations available, ensuring different levels of performance truck shoppers seek for their needs. The smallest one is a 2.7-liter turbo four that makes 310 hp. The base configuration features a 4.3-liter 285-hp V6 engine. For those who believe that there’s no replacement for displacement, there are 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s, with the latter being offered on more trim levels starting in 2020. Combined with a 10-speed automatic, it can be had on the RST and Trail Boss (both LT and Custom). The big newsmaker is a torquey clean-sheet turbodiesel added to the engine range of the half-ton pickup. This 3.0-liter I6 from Duramax is rated at 277 hp and 460 lb-ft. Most of the torque is already present at 1,500 rpm making this mill a fine choice for work. The availability of the 10-speed transmission for 5.3-liter V8 equipped pickups rounds out the changes for Chevrolet’s light-duty truck. The 2020 Silverado 2500 and 3500 gained two new powertrains: a gasoline-fed direct-injection engine mated to a 6-speed automatic and an old good turbodiesel V8 by Duramax that makes 910 pound-feet of torque managed by an all-new 10-speed automatic by Allison. While the regular Silverado can tow 12,200 pounds, its HD counterpart is claimed to receive a big increase in pulling and hauling capabilities.
