This year gave the Mini Countryman an increase in turbo boost along with many improved engine, driveline, and suspension parts. While the model got a number of significant mechanical changes, its appearance remains virtually unchanged. Although the crossover looks distinctly familiar, it still has a few slightly redesigned 2020 Mini Countryman accessories inside and out. The most important changes are hidden under the sheetmetal. The new Mini gets power from a 2.0 L turbo-4 that is, by and large, a beefed-up version of the unit found in both the S Countryman and Cooper S Clubman. It is now capable of providing an impressive output of 331 HP. That’s a 75 HP increase over the outgoing version. The torque increase is also profound, rising from 257 lb-ft to 331 lb-ft.
To handle that extra power and torque boost, the crankshaft was reinforced. For the same reason, the automaker equipped the SUV with new engine parts like pistons and connecting rods. There is also a new cooling system to maintain the updated engine at its optimal temperature. Furthermore, the compression ratio was dropped to match the higher power output. In addition to the enhancements and new 2020 Mini Countryman parts mentioned above, this year’s model comes with a turbocharger with a blow-off valve that increases responsiveness and the automaker's direct-injection system updated to feed the higher-output mill. An eight-speed automatic is the only transmission option available. It now offers lower motor speeds in higher gears which results in better efficiency.
With all those improvements, the new subcompact crossover SUV from BMW can sprint to 62 mph in just 5.1 seconds, and that is 1.5 seconds quicker compared to the previous version. Just like before, the crossover is all-wheel drive. During normal driving, it works as front-wheel drive and sends power to the rear wheels when needed. The crossover also benefits from a locking differential. It ensures that front and rear wheels all spin at the same speed thus enabling the Countryman to traverse difficult terrains with ease. On the styling side of things, the SUV trudges on for yet another model year virtually unchanged. Just like before, it combines its fuel-efficient driving performance with a spacious cabin full of advanced tech and attractive accessories. Inside, the seats in both rows are comfortable for not only children but also adults. Standard upholstery is leatherette, but buyers are also offered leather one as an option.
