The Peugeot 405 is a large family car produced by the French auto maker Peugeot since 1987. Already in 1988 the car was voted the European Car of the Year. The exterior Peugeot 405 parts' design is similar to the Alfa Romeo 164, which was launched the same year. Based on an extended Peugeot 205 platform, the Peugeot 405 was designed to take over the Peugeot 505. The car was available in the left- and right-hand-drive versions, as a saloon and station wagon, in front-wheel, and four-wheel drive. The available engines included 1.4L, 1.6L, 1.8L and 1.9L 8V petrol and diesel ones.
In 1990 the vehicle was facelifted and got revised trim boards and a more attractive dashboard. Tow years later the Peugeot 405 received another facelift together with a new 2.0L engine, renewed interior, and a lowered boot opening to ease access. Power steering and a driver's airbag became standard on all vehicles starting with the year 1994.
The Peugeot 405 T16 version followed the footsteps of the Peugeot 205 T16. The victories of the motor-sport version in the Paris-Dakar Rally and at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb ensured its glory as a sports model. A major technical and commercial success accompanied the car through the years, still the production of the Peugeot 405 ended in 1997 after nearly 2.5 million vehicles had been sold. By now the 405 is considered to be the last Peugeot sold in the US.
The Peugeot 405 is the kind of car that drivers remain loyal to. Its consistent performance, efficiency, and edgy style are all attributes that any driver can appreciate.
